About the Author-
소설과 동화를 쓰는 작가이며, 수년 동안 여러 지면에 ‘침묵의 소리’와 ‘풍경 너머의 풍경’을 주제로 그림을 연재했다. 지난 10여 년간 TV·라디오 방송과 학교, 기타 공공기관 및 기업체 등에서 1000회 이상 강연을 했으며, 풀무야학에서 오랫동안 학생들을 가르치기도 했다. 작품집으로는 『연탄길(전3권)』, 『행복한 고물상』, 『위로』, 『곰보빵』, 『눈물은 힘이 세다』, 『송이의 노란 우산』, 『낙타 할아버지는 어디로 갔을까』, 『아버지의 자전거』, 『세상에서 가장 맛있는 자장면』 등 20종이 있다. 400만 이상 독자들이 읽은 『연탄길』은 일본과 중국, 대만에 수출되었고 『곰보빵』은 일본에, 『송이의 노란 우산』과 『낙타 할아버지는 어디로 갔을까』는 중국에 수출되었다. 『연탄길』은 뮤지컬로도 만들어져 제4회 더뮤지컬어워즈에서 ‘소극장창작뮤지컬상’을 수상했다. 작가의 작품 중 총 9편의 글이 초등학교와 중학교 교과서에 실렸고, 〈뮤지컬 연탄길〉의 대본은 고등학교 문학교과서에 실리기도 했다. 2000년부터 책 수익금으로 운영해온 ‘연탄길 나눔터 기금’을 통해, 낮고 그늘진 곳에 있는 이들을 후원하고 있다.
