كاتب سيناريو وروائي سوري (مواليد حلب، 1964) ترجمت أعماله إلى الكثير من اللغات. في رصيده ستّ روايات: «حارس الخديعة» (1993)، «دفاتر القرباط» (2000)، «مديح الكراهية» (2006) التي وصلت إلى القائمة القصيرة لجائزة البوكر العربيّة، «لا سكاكين في مطابخ هذه المدينة» (2013) التي وصلت أيضًا إلى القائمة القصيرة لجائزة البوكر وحازت جائزة نجيب محفوظ لعام 2013، «الموت عمل شاق» (2016)، و«لم يصلِّ عليهم أحد» (2019) التي أدرجت على القائمة الطويلة لجائزة البوكر. للكاتب أيضًا عدد من المسلسلات التلفزيونيّة منها «سيرة آل الجلالي» (1999) ومسلسل «هدوء نسبي» (2009).
