While the Internet and mass media continue to broaden people's global viewpoints, language barriers persist. Libraries are grappling with ways to provide high-quality experiences with their digital resources to increasingly diverse user populations. Chen (LIS, Univ. of North Texas; The Electronic Library Editor-in-Chief) has produced a scholarly contribution to library literature that addresses challenges in enabling access to digital collections for multilingual users. In summarizing her research about multilingual information access for the benefit of digital library developers, the author includes a list of acronyms and a glossary to assist readers through the dense content. Questions and references enhance the book's value for graduate students, as does a chapter on identifying Internet language resources, and tools, ranging from dictionaries and parallel text to test collections, text processing systems, and information retrieval systems. While Ximo Granell's Multilingual Information Management may provide companion reading about cross-language information retrieval and translation, Nicole Engard's More Library Mashups showcases creative ways in which libraries are helping patrons benefit from digital resources.
