James Meunier convincingly portrays the confusion and terror of Alex Dean, a Londoner who wakes up one morning in a place and time he doesn't recognize. Alex's most recent memory is spending a delightful evening with his girlfriend. They were celebrating his acceptance to Cambridge--until they were interrupted by a violent confrontation with Alex's childhood nemesis. Meunier voices Alex's disgust at discovering he's now a derelict alcoholic, and his terror the next morning when he again awakens in new circumstances. As Alex travels through his atemporal life, he strives desperately to reconnect with his beloved Holly, whom Meunier portrays with subtle charm.
